Halloween 2021

I love looking back on my older posts during the holidays. Seeing how I decorated and reading about the things we done as a family always makes me happy.

Decor

One thing I noticed from last years Halloween post is that not a lot has changed with my decor. Every year I pick up a few new items, usually from the Target dollar spot, but overall I just reuse the same things I’ve used in the past.

Fun Festivities

We picked out pumpkins at one of our favorite spots.

At work we dressed up as Brown Bear characters.

Family Fun

We had Family Game Night: Halloween Edition. Planning the games and buying everything we needed took a lot of time, but it was so worth it. First we played Family Feud. I was the host, Kylan and Koby were a team and Jordan and Klara were a team. I painted cardboard in Halloween colors and taped the answers to each question on the board in order with the number of points they were worth, just like the actual television game show. It was so much fun! After we played Family Feud, we played Minute to Win It.

Our Minute To Win It Games:

Mummy Wrap- Wrap up your partner as fast as you can; the first person to finish their roll wins

Pumpkin Toss- Toss candy pumpkins into cups; the person who makes the most pumpkins into their cups wins

Spider Races- Each player gets a plastic spider and a straw and everyone lines up at the starting line; everyone blows their spider with their straw and the person whose spider gets to the finish line first wins

Vampire Fangs Race- Each player gets a set of vampire teeth, a plate of marshmallows, and a bowl; whoever picks up the most marshmallows with the vampire teeth in their mouth and gets them into their bowl wins

Spider Dig- Each player gets a bowl with plastic spiders hidden underneath graham cracker crumbs and a spoon. Players put the spoon in their mouth and without using their hands, players try scooping out the spiders. The first person to get out the most spiders in 20 seconds wins

Worm Dig- Each player gets a plate of gummy worms buried in whipped cream and a bowl to put their gummy worms into. Without using their hands, players move their gummy worms to their bowl. The player who gets all of the worms moved to their bowl first wins

I put together Halloween Mysetery Bags and the kids loved it. We had 15 mystery bags total, but my top five were

  • Pointy press on nails- witches nails
  • Raisins- witches warts
  • Gauze- mummy wrap
  • Q-tips- skeleton bones
  • Marshmallows- ghost boogers

I think my favorite game was putting together plates of food and having the kids guess what they were eating.

  • Pumpkin candy- Headless Horsemans head
  • Pretzel stick- Witches broom
  • Marshmallows- Ghost boogers
  • Small Slim Jim- Zombie finger
  • Fruit Gusher- Witches wart
  • Relish- Bug guts
  • Pickle- Frog for the witches brew
  • Bacon bits- Fresh picked scabs
  • Bugle- Wiches fingernail
  • Catalina dressing- Dracula’s dinner
  • Olive- An eyeball
  • Spaghetti noodles- Worms

When we finished our games we made witches brew brownies and turned on Halloweentown. The only light that filled the room was from our big pumpkin I bought at Lowe’s last year.

Halloween

I love setting the table for holidays. It’s so simple, but it’s so exciting for the kids. This year I put on an orange tablecloth and used some of my decor for centerpieces. These cute plates and napkins came from Target.

I love our posable skeleton! This is our second year with it and it’s so much fun to put at the Halloween table.

For breakfast I made skeleton pancakes.

For lunch we made mummy dogs and zombie juice.

Klara dressed up as Addison from the movie Zombies and Koby was a peanut butter M&M.

Lola was a rainbow and Ranger was a fireman. The neighborhood loved their costumes. We had neighbors taking their pictures and other neighbors giving them dog treats.

Family pajamas are one of my favorite things about the holidays. They’re expensive and the kids don’t love them nearly as much as I do, but I get them for every holiday. This Halloween I ordered skeleton ones. I made a scavenger hunt for the kids and at the end, they all found their new pajamas wrapped neatly under their pillows.

How did you celebrate Halloween this year?
