Life Lately

In the classroom

I’m sure I am not the first one to say this, but Christmas break is such a refresher for teachers. 🙌

This week our unit was winter. We had so much fun making snow dough and hot chocolate!

Here are the books that I put out for display this week.

I take full advantage of the library and I use my own children’s books from home, but when I moved things into my classroom over the summer, I discovered a huge cabinet full of books separated by unit. I hit the jackpot.

Our first week back from Christmas break was only a 3 day week. I used those days to review our letters, numbers, and shapes.

We put our motor skills to work by making these new year numbers with gems and beads! They have made the best decorations for the classroom.

I bought this workbook over the break (at Dollar Tree!) and wish there had been enough for me to buy each kiddo their own! It is the perfect workbook for morning work.

I put together a new busy box for less than $4 and it was a big hit, even with the girls.

On Wednesday we made snow dough!

Unfortunately, I had to take my first sick day on Thursday. I had been battling no voice, a headache, and aching legs since Monday but continued to push forward until my body just couldn’t take much more. A day of rest was just what I needed because today I was in full swing.

We read a winter story and had a class discussion about the weather forecast for the weekend. It’s supposed to snow a few inches over the weekend, and considering it was 18 degrees this morning, I asked the kiddos what they like to do on a cold winter day. Build a snowman, go sledding, ice skate, eat soup, and make hot cocoa were some of their answers. When I told them we would be making hot chocolate, they were so excited! They loved stirring and adding marshmallows. The best part was listening to their little giggles as they sipped their hot chocolate and chatted with their friends.

We practiced counting with ten frames using our hot chocolate counting mats.

I also came across this hot chocolate worksheet that was perfect for today!

Another thing we worked on today was making patterns during snack time.

Oh, and one of my kiddos went to Ireland for the holidays and brought us back a special treat!

At home

Kylan had his first basketball game last weekend! His team won 32 to 18 which was a victory because last basketball season his team lost every single game.

Over Christmas break I received a phone call from the school district. The reason they were calling was because Kylan was recognized as having “leadership qualities” and was chosen to co-lead a large and impactful event. It is called Camp Compassion and he is so excited to design the t-shirt for the event! I am so excited to see how this event will touch the lives of others.

Koby will start bowling with the Challengers league in a few weeks and he is so excited! He brought home all A’s and B’s on his report card and I couldn’t be more proud of him!

Klara has worn her unicorn headband to school every day this week. She needed a new backpack and today I found one that I knew she would love because 1. It’s sparkly 2. UNICORN

Y’all, she freaked when she saw it! She was so surprised that it had two pockets, two zippers, and “TWO WATER BOTTLE DEPARTMENTS!” Oh, and we can’t forget that it has, “a fuzzy keychain that I’ve always wanted!” 🤷‍♀️

Last weekend Jordan and I had a date night. We ate at Outback Steakhouse because we still had some money on a gift card from one of my families from work. Jordan orders the steak tacos with a side of mac and cheese and I order the tilapia tacos with a side salad. We each get 2 tacos then switch one so we each have one steak taco and one fish taco. They are the best things ever. It’s the only thing we order from there!

After we ate, we dropped Klara off some pajamas and kissed all the munchkins. We left from there and went shopping. The knockoff department stores are my absolute favorite. TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, Burlington.

My favorite thing I came across was this Barbie coffee cup for $2.00 and of course I bought it.

The next morning Jordan made me breakfast (and coffee) before we went to church.

After church we grabbed some bagels for lunch and went to pick up the little ones. Is there any better feeling than when you see those little faces for the first time in 20 hours?! No. There is not any feeling better than that.

Another great feeling? When your hubby goes to Sam’s and gets all of your groceries for the week. Having a full refrigerator makes my heart happy.

Friday Favorites

Jello. Ever since my throat started hurting on Monday, all I have wanted is jello. Not the kind that you buy in the little cups that’s already made, but the kind you make yourself from a box. Jordan has made me a box every night since Monday just because he’s the sweetest. And because I eat the whole bowl in one sitting. 🤦‍♀️

I bought this brown sweater at TJ Maxx with my Christmas money and absolutely love it, especially with these black leggings and booties from Target.

The Fossil watch that Jordan got me for Christmas goes great with it as well.

These earrings and this vest. I’m loving ’em both right now! Almost as much as my brown sweater.

Christopher Robin. Our entire family loved the new Winnie the Pooh movie! We watched it last weekend and even our almost-eleven-year-old loved it.

A Million Little Things. I started binge watching this when Jordan started third shift and am OBSESSED. Jordan is back to first shift again, thank goodness. I’ve finally gotten my sleeping schedule and my sanity back.

Grey’s Anatomy season 1 reruns on Lifetime. That is all.

This Dr. Teal’s Epsom Salt Soaking Solution. It smells soooo good and really helps to relax your body.

What are some of your current Friday favorites?
